Anytime you hear any of the political pundits pontificating about next year's presidential election, they are unanimous in parroting that the election is about domestic issues, the economy and jobs. And each of the candidates claims that he along holds the key to "putting Americans back to work" and reinvigorating the stagnant American economy.
But folks, it ain't true.
The plain, hard truth is that, although American presidents are mostly elected on domestic issues, the only power they really possess is the power to act on and affect foreign policy and national defense issues.
Despite their enthusiastic campaign promises to "create millions of jobs" or "boost the economy," as soon as they take the oath of office and move in to the White House presidents come a shattering conclusion: they have virtually no power whatsoever to either affect the economy for the better or put Americans back to work.
So where do presidents have power?
George W. Bush and Barack Obama showed that presidents have the power to send thousands troops into foreign countries by executive order.
George W. Bush showed that they have the power to kidnap, imprison and torture foreigners without any accountability to Congress or the American people.
Barack Obama showed that they have the power to send drones over foreign countries to massacre innocent non-combatent civilians and even use those drones to murder American citizens without trail by jury.
But as for creating jobs for Americans? And as for improving the American economy? Fuggedaboudit.
So, whether it be Obama or Romney, just be sure to take their pronouncements and predictions about "creating jobs" jobs and the "improving the economy" with a very large grain of salt. It ain't gonna happen.
